On April 17 -for the second time- our faculty organized the national round of the European Ethics Bowl (EEB) international debate competition, which also was a qualifier for the fall semifinals in Slovenia.
At the debate competition, five teams, a total of 14 students (8 from BAM and 6 from INEB) shared their thoughts in English on the moral issues related to the use of artificial intelligence in education. The competition was divided into two debates, 3 teams competed in the first round, while 2 teams competed in the second, shedding light on different aspects of AI and education and collecting points. We would like to thank the members of the jury, Dr. Beáta Udvari, Dr. Zoltán Dragon and Dr. Gábor Piller, for their work and for choosing who will represent the faculty and the country in the international semi-finals.
As a result of the close contest, the jury selected the MARKHOR team to go to the semi-finals in Slovenia. The members of the winning team are: Tariq Shehroz, Aslam Muhammad Umer and Moosa Muees, all BAM students. Other competing teams were: Debate Warriors (Turin Nusrath Jahan, Kyew Htet Aung and Sára Kiss - INEB), they are the runner-up team for the semi-finals in Slovenia; The Three Musketeers (Móricz Emese Julianna, Siddique Shah Md Abubakar and Shuaib Faisal Adukke – INEB); LLL (Lili Barnóth, Yelizaveta Verblyudova and Yelena Kachurova – BAM); Nur and Alex (Kanonge Mitonga Nur and Dubranov Aleksander – BAM).
The competition was preceded by three preparatory workshops: analysis of ethical issues, presentation skills, negotiation skills. The workshops were held by Judit Gébert, Luca Csák and Ábel Garamhegyi, and Timothy Yaw Acheampong explained the rules of the EEB to the debating students. Thus, by participating in the competition and preparing for it, the students were able to develop their skills in many areas, which will certainly benefit them in the future. Congratulations to all participants and good luck to MARKHOR in the semi-finals in Slovenia.
