This year, the final event of the European Ethics Bowl was hosted by the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration (FEBA) at Sofia University from 21 to 23 November.
Situated in the heart of Sofia, Bulgaria’s capital, the Faculty blends academic excellence with a strong commitment to innovation, ethics, and societal engagement. This environment provided an ideal setting for in-depth discussions on this year’s central theme: The Ethics of Truth and Information.
Over the weekend (21-23- November), nine university teams from across Europe travelled to Sofia to debate, exchange ideas, and take on intellectually demanding ethical challenges. With teams from Bulgaria, Croatia, Estonia, France, Germany, Hungary, Luxembourg, Serbia, and Slovenia, the city became a vibrant hub of ethical reflection and international collaboration.
Team Hungary was represented by three outstanding BAM students: Lili Barnóth, Milana Kislova, and Yelizaveta Verblyudova. They reached the Final Four, where they competed closely with the teams that went on to the grand final. They missed the final round by just a minimal point margin. Although they did not win, they received numerous positive comments from the judges and brought energy, dedication, and enthusiasm to every debate.
In the final debate between Team Luxembourg and Team Slovenia, Team Luxembourg emerged as the winner. We warmly congratulate them on their achievement.
Yaw Timothy Acheampong and Luca Csák, who accompanied the Hungarian team to the competition, reflected on the experience:
“We are very proud of our team. They debated enthusiastically, passionately, and with a smile. They learned a great deal from other teams and the judges, and they even helped make the winning team better.”
Milana: "Participation in European Ethics Bowl was definitely one of the greatest opportunities I have had. Me personally, I feel much more confident about my skills after taking part in such a major competition. And I am very grateful to my teammates and our mentors for their constant enthusiasm and support. We gained a lot of experience and at the same time had so much fun in Sofia!"
Yelizaveta: "It was a wonderful international experience. I was so proud to represent Hungary, and I hope that next year the EEB Cup will be at the University of Szeged. Receiving encouraging feedback from numerous professionals across various fields meant a lot to the entire team. I am very grateful for the support of our mentors - Yaw Timothy Acheampong and Luca Csák - who shared their experience with us and helped us get prepared for the competition. Our team made friends with many inspiring students, and I hope we can keep in touch."
This inspiring weekend reminded us that ethical thinking grows stronger when diverse voices come together — and with the 2026 competition ahead, we encourage everyone to follow the upcoming spring announcements. As every year, the local round will be held in spring 2026, and the winning team will earn the opportunity to compete internationally in the autumn.
