My Erasmus Experience at Savoie Mont Blanc University

I am Alikhan Orazaly, student of the bachelor programme Business Administration and Management, at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, University of Szeged. I am currently studying as an Erasmus exchange student at Savoie Mont Blanc University located in Chambery, France, in my fall semester of the academic year 2018-2019.

AlpsLe Mont BlancChambery is a city surrounded by the French Alps and an amazing nature, also the university is named after the highest point of the Alps, Mont Blanc. Moreover, this university has 3 campuses located in 3 different cities close to each other. It is my first international exchange experience I have ever had. Except for the first time, when I came to study in Szeged. Since I had such an amazing experience at the University of Szeged, I considered that I really wanted to experience this again, but in a different country and different environment.

Chambery 1I arrived in Chambery in September and it was very sunny, even if it is surrounded by the Alps. The fall semester starts at the beginning of September and ends in December. The first couple of weeks were about settling in and arranging my university schedule. As for accommodation, I live on the university campus, which is about a convenient five-minute walk from the university. My schedule of classes changes every week, and it is on different days and times.

Furthermore, making friends may vary from person to person, but in general it is quite easy to go out and meet new people when on an exchange. In the beginning of the semester, everyone is in the same situation as you. I found some new friends fairly quick. I got to know both French, international and local students. It was lots of fun meeting people around the world and sharing the same experience with them. Also, there are a lot of student activities and an Erasmus organization responsible for organizing events at the university, where you can find people with the same interests.

Chambery 2Moreover, France has a beautiful landscape consisting of cities surrounded by beautiful nature and beaches. Exploring the country is a good idea, something I wish to do more, but I did go on hikes around Chambery and also visited a few other smaller cities nearby. Chambery is not a big city, but it is a typical nice French city. There are always some events or entertainment going on in a city like Chambery. There are plenty of drinking bars to hang out at and many food places that serve various delicious cuisines. To conclude, my experience of studying abroad is going very incredible. Although I am glad that I took the opportunity to study in France as an exchange student, I strongly recommend anyone who is considering going on an exchange by the Erasmus to do it – you will not regret it.
