The two INEB students, Kokoti Perez and Nigam Khushi, from the University got the opportunity to participate as delegates of Canada and Morroco in the Model WTO Conference of this year.
This is the largest stimulation of WTO in the world where 72 students come together from all around the globe. This conference involved negotiations on trade inclusivity in 6 different committees in St. Gallen. After 3 days of negotiations, the students went to Geneva where they had the opportunity to visit the Graduate Insitute of Geneva and constructively engage with the diplomat expert Dmitry Grozoubinski. On the fourth day of the Conference, the student visited the respective Permanent Missions of Canada and Morocco to the WTO where they had the opportunity to share views on diplomacy and international trade with the Ambassadors themselves.
The last day of the conference was marked with a visit to the World Trade Organisation headquarters where the trade experts had provided their feedback to the Committee Resolutions. The students also got the opportunity to attend the panel discussion moderated by the WTO, Enhanced Integrated Framework. The panel discussion was moderated by the Permanent Ambassador of Barbados, Matthew Wilson, himself. At the end of the Conference, Khushi was awarded the Honourable Mention title from her Committee.
"To us, this was an important learning experience that helped us develop negotiation skills, and knowledge of the real working of WTO, and better contemplate the political-economic positions of the different nations. At the end of the Conference, we left with a bag full of memories, connections with friends all over the world, and insights that no textbooks might have possibly provided.
We find this opportunity as an invaluable experience to understand global issues from the perspectives of diplomats, experts, and economists themselves. While being in an internationally rich, culturally vivid environment, students can surely broaden their horizons about real-life challenges. Since the framework of this Conference is on similar lines to many of the careers lying ahead of our Course we would highly recommend the students to apply for the conference next year. In case of any queries, you can always reach out to us, we would be glad to help you out.
We would like to thank Professor Sarolta Somosi for providing this opportunity; Dr. Ildikó Pusztai-Varga for providing a Faculty scholarship; Melinda Kovács, and Gabriella Maczkó for their immense support and encouragement throughout the process." - Khushi and Perez
