The European Ethics Bowl (EEB) is unlike any traditional debate competition.
With the main focus of raising awareness of ethical business issues in a European context, the EEB encourages the participants to join an open, civil conversation, to understand, and to collaborate for the purpose of finding feasible solutions. This year's theme was Ethics in Sport, which was an interesting yet challenging topic. The competition was held in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, which was such a charming place with its picturesque architecture and vibrant cultural scene.
Our team applied for the competition with the spirit of life-long learning in mind. In both national and quarterfinal rounds, our teams have spent a great deal of time doing our research through scientific journals, newspapers, and professional round-table discussions. We also pushed the limits by criticizing our own points of view and elaborating on possible counterarguments. I believe that our effort spent doing our homework has resulted in great feedback from the judges, such as "well-researched explanations" or "strong fact-based arguments".
Through the competition, we not only enhanced our understanding of complex ethical issues but also developed our critical thinking and communication skills. We were excited to engage in thought-provoking discussions with participants from different backgrounds and perspectives, fostering a rich intellectual experience for all involved. Our team was especially grateful for the networking opportunity that the organizing committee provided. We have made wonderful friendships along the way and have connected with experts in the field who have offered valuable insights and guidance. This networking opportunity has opened doors for potential future collaborations, further enriching our academic and professional journeys.
Overall, participating in this competition has been a transformative experience that has broadened our horizons and prepared us for success in our future endeavors. I recommend other students participate in this competition and take advantage of the opportunity it offers.
