GTK Orientation Day

Report on orientation programme

The orientation program for the fresh students of the Business Administration and Management BSc, the Tourism and Catering BSc, the International Economy and Business MSc and PhD students in Economics was organised on 1st September 2020.

Newly admitted Hungarian as well as international students from various countries were formally welcomed and introduced in the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, University of Szeged.


The day began with the meeting of the team of mentors led by Anita Kéri, Head of Mentor Team, where the progress of fresh students was discussed. The issues from the arrival to the registration in the faculty and immigration process for newly admitted students were thoroughly discussed.


The formal program of the Orientation Day event started at 10 am with the welcome speech by the dean of the faculty, Dr Péter Kovács. He welcomed newly admitted students and stated that through a combination of virtual education and in-person sessions, the Faculty would try to provide the best educational experience possible to our students, no matter what the circumstances were.


Dr Szabolcs Prónay, Head of the Tourism and Catering bachelor program gave students an insight into the academic life of an undergraduate student at GTK, including the discipline, subject selection and course application required to maintain during their education here. Dr Anita Pelle, Head of the Master program gave insight into the master’s degree Program and its description, subject selection and INEB program overview.


Dr Ildikó Pusztai-Varga, Director of International Affairs discussed about the placement and extra-curricular activities carried out by the faculty. The students were also briefed about required training programs planned to develop competencies to approach the job market. As part of the orientation, Gabriella Maczkó, the study official was also present.


Anita Kéri also shared her thoughts about university outside academia, and about what students could do to keep themselves motivated and develop their personality. Later, there was a short introduction of Head Mentors Csenge Vadász, Gréta Nagy, Asif Aziz Arbab and Ahmed Sufian.


In the second half of the day, the Faculty building tour was scheduled. Besides the main “KO” building and “GO” educational building, the other parts of the city were also visited. The Rector’s Office and English language centre were shown to newly admitted students. In the end, the students visited the SZTE Klebelsberg Library and student office. Later on, the mentors and fresh students had a refreshment together where they exchanged and shared their views, experiences and ideas.


During the orientation ceremony, students and all attendees strictly followed the safety requirements by wearing a facial covering, maintaining physical distancing, and using designated pathways. The ceremony and University building tour were also streamed online on faculty YouTube channel and Instagram account.
