The Faculty of Economics and Business Administration at the University of Szeged hosted an inspiring alumni panel discussion featuring graduates of the Business Administration and Management (BAM) program.
The event aimed to provide current students with valuable insights into the practical relevance of their studies, as well as real-life career paths and professional development after graduation.
A Truly International Perspective
The panel brought together alumni from diverse professional and geographical backgrounds:
Reflecting the international nature of the BAM program, the discussion itself spanned multiple time zones—from morning in Canada to late evening in Vietnam—highlighting the global journeys of its graduates.
From University to Career: Lessons Learned
The panelists shared personal stories from their university years, emphasizing how certain experiences and decisions shaped their professional paths. Many noted that while academic knowledge is essential, the real value of university lies in the development of both technical and behavioral skills.
Interestingly, several alumni pointed out that subjects they initially underestimated later became highly relevant in their careers. For example, analyzing buying behavior has become a central part of professional work for some.
Embracing Challenges and Growth
When discussing career challenges, a recurring theme was resilience. The alumni encouraged students not to be discouraged by setbacks:
They emphasized that uncertainty is a natural part of life and career development. The ability to adapt, stay open to new opportunities, and continuously learn is crucial. Surrounding oneself with supportive and inspiring people was also highlighted as a key factor in overcoming difficulties.
Practical Advice for Students
The panel offered a wealth of actionable advice for current students:
A particularly powerful message was the importance of self-belief: “You have to believe in yourself more than anyone else.”
The Role of the BAM Program
From the academic perspective, Dr. Kincsesné Dr. Vajda Beáta highlighted that the BAM curriculum is continuously evolving to meet both professional and student needs. The program aims to equip students with a balanced combination of theoretical knowledge and practical skills.
She also emphasized the importance of human interaction in education. While information is widely accessible online, collaboration, mentorship, and teamwork remain essential elements of true learning and professional growth.
The BAM program’s quality is further demonstrated by its recent achievement: it has successfully obtained the EFMD reaccreditation for another three years.
A Platform for Connection and Inspiration
The event brought together current students and faculty members, creating a meaningful space for dialogue, reflection, and connection. Alumni panels like this not only inspire students but also strengthen the relationship between past and present members of the university community.
Beyond sharing knowledge, such discussions offer something more: a sense of perspective. They serve as a reminder that while each career path is unique and often unpredictable, the foundations built during university years—skills, relationships, and experiences—remain invaluable throughout life.
