Emmanuel Nii Lante Lamptey, our student from Ghana, is currently pursuing a master's degree in International Economics and Business.
In his spare time, he has completed several Coursera courses, thereby expanding his professional knowledge.
We asked him about his motivations and experiences in a short interview.
I heard about Coursera from a youtube advert.
The the need to gain more practical skills and knowledge in the evolving job market motivated me in taking Coursera courses. Also the desire to make use of all opportunities and resources provided for students by the University for self development
I have completed 7 courses and my favourite will have to be foundations of Project management. This is due to how practical and involving the course was. It required me to think and apply real life scenarios on how I would manage a project and other life simulations.
If it fits into my career path and the need of it in the ever evolving job market
Some of the courses provide additional knowledge to courses being thought in my programme of study. Coursera course like Global Strategy and Foundations of project management gave me deeper understanding of the course Mordern Management and Marketing.
It also helps me in exploring my potential career paths and specialization.
It helped improved my time management and discipline due to its self-directed self paced learning. Learning courses under Google data analytics also gave me skills on how to analyse data, clean data and prepare data for exploration.
These courses will demonstrate my commitment to continous learning and self improvemet to potential employees as well as showing how practical and knowledgeable I am in my field.
Yes I would recomment Coursera courses to fellow students as it complements Universtity courses and help you gain more practical experiences of courses being thought. It will also help them develop some soft skills through courses which are not being thought in their field of studies.
I will tell them to go for it and be committed in completing the courses. They should also take courses they are interested in as this will make learning easier and fun.
