PROGRAMME OVERVIEW

The Bachelor in Tourism and Catering is a 8-semester-long training programme, taught fully in English. The programme has been developed for students who wish to acquire strong practical business knowledge and want to interpret tourism trends at local and global level. The main objective of the Tourism and Catering BSc programme is to train economists who are equipped with appropriate knowledge and soft skills to work on the field of tourism and catering services. The program has a special focus on the hotel industry, on wellness and health tourism, on tour operations, on touristic marketing communication and on destination management.

The programme consists of compulsory, semi-optional and optional courses, thesis consultation, and thesis writing. After completing the courses, degree can be obtained by successfully defending a thesis and passing the final exam.

The degree is accredited in Hungary and recognised by the European Union and its Member States.

Modules C2 and C3 offer two specializations. The student has to select one of the specializations at the end of the 2nd year.

The structure of the programme by semesters

At the end of the programme in the 7th and 8th semesters, students will complete a 12-12 week internship at a company of their own choice in Hungary or abroad where they will have the opportunity to apply their theoretical and practical knowledge in a real, corporate environment. The Faculty has connections abroad. Students can even do the Internship in the USA through CampLeaders.

Physical Education (P.E.) is a criterion subject with two credit points. Two semesters of P.E. courses are mandatory to complete during your studies for bachelor students.

The SZTE Sport Center (address of sport facilities: 6725 Szeged, Hattyas utca 10.) offers a wild variety of sport courses in English.

**Foreign language requirements at the SZTE Faculty of Economics and Business Administration

The following requirements were negotiated and accepted on 23 February 2023 by the Faculty Council. These requirements have been in effect since the date of their acceptance for all students having student status at the SZTE Faculty of Economics and Business Administration. The following list contains the Tourism and Catering programmes taught in English,

Basic requirement

The basic requirement can be substituted with the followings (A student must submit a Credit Transfer Request).


Tourism and Catering BSc

Requirement regulated by the law: 2 foreign economic languages known at B2 level.

Completing B2 module with 4 credits

AND

internal oral and written exam in a language but English (criteria exam, 0 credit, it can be passed from the 3rd semester, and it is a pre-requisite of the pre-degree certificate)

members of the committee: Foreign Language Centre of the SZTE, faculty members and company representatives

First foreign language: the language of the study programme (English)

How to substitute the second foreign language:

1) Mother tongue except Hungarian and English

2) B2 level complex, accredited language exam except in Hungarian and English + 2 professional courses completed in the language of the language exam during Erasmus studies

3) C1 level complex accredited language exam except in Hungarian and English

4) at least B2 level complex accredited economic or tourism focused language exam except in Hungarian and English


Criteria exam:
- Criteria exam can be taken in languages that are offered by the SZTE Foreign Language and Communication Centre (IKI).
- Criteria exam is built on language proficiency at B2 level. Its oral part is built on presentation, situations, while the written part contains tasks about understanding a written text, writing a business letter and an analysis of a figure.
- These criteria will be integrated in the curricula in the spring semester of 2022/2023 academic year. The first time when the criteria exam can be taken is December 2023.
- Criteria exam will be an independent course in Neptun, so a student must register for it in the semester when they plan to pass it. Criteria exam can be taken in the third semester at first.
- Criteria exam can be taken in the exam period in the way the IKI organizes it.
- Students have maximum 6 attempts to take the criteria exam during the whole study period, as it is considered to be a normal exam.

International students are required to fill in a Declaration of language form about their mother tongue upon enrolment. If the mother tongue is other than English, they do not have to take any criteria exam.
