The admission process for the PhD programme involves an oral interview conducted either personally in Szeged or via Skype. All transcripts of records are reviewed by a committee previous to the entrance interview to ensure eligibility. The interview itself is a 10-15-minute long discussion in English focusing on the motivation, research interest and methodological background of the candidate.

All candidates are evaluated based on their demonstrated professional knowledge on their research topic and applicable methodology. Their English skill and overall motivation are also included in the evaluation. The admission committee makes records of each entrance interview for future reference.

After the entrance interviews have been evaluated, the Council of the Doctoral School, and the overall Doctoral Institute decides about the admissions – please note that the final decision about the scholarship is made by the Tempus Public Foundation.

Once the scholarships are awarded, newly admitted students are issued an official admission letter by the university to attach to visa applications. Accommodation is provided to all Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship holders in the University’s dormitories, however, students may move to individual flats later.

New students start their studies in September each year with an orientation week designed to get their paperwork in order and make them familiar with the University and the vibe of the city before starting classes usually in the middle of September.

• Relevant MSc/MA degree in Economics
• Transcript of records from previous MSc/MA studies
• English language certificate (B2 level) or a declaration on completing the MSc/MA studies in English
• Medical certificate
